Gemma and Carl’s Redhouse Barn Wedding.
Gemma and Carl are an awesome couple that in the year coming up to the Wedding had been through the mill. Gemma had lost her much loved Father and with the funeral a couple of weeks before the Wedding I was unsure if they could go ahead until I met them both. These guys are so strong together and Gemma’s resilience in the face of everything was astounding. I lost my father over a year ago so it was an emotional meet up before the big day to get some notes and just to gauge how everything was with them and their family. The day was a celebration! Friends and family of this pair came together to celebrate them and the day turned into one of the most awesome weddings I’ve had the pleasure to cover.
The ladies had a cracking morning full of laughs, emotions and a couple of drinks to keep everything flowing. During the preparations, everyone gets a bit twitchy when I first arrive and I was greeted by Gemma laughing, “oh don’t get any photo’s of me like this,” in her dressing gown. A usual response during the prep but it’s really important to capture those moments in the morning. It’s one of the parts you forget from the Wedding day. Gemma’s daughter Mia was full of excitement running about helping away. The ceremony was emotional with Gemma’s Mom walking her down the aisle to a few tears but the pair of legends did a grand job! Little slip up from the registrars getting Gemma’s middle name wrong lightened the mood and had everyone laughing away. Mia getting in on the photo action for some shots with her Mom and Dad after signing the register. The finale for me was Gemma and Carl dancing out of the ceremony room followed by friends and family. Absolutely sums this couple up!
Jane and the Redhouse Barn team run a stunning venue and Gemma and Carl’s big day was no exception. It was baking hot and they kept me and my assistant Liz well hydrated. Massive shout out to Olivia who was a star on the Wedding day helping me organise group shots and also making sure we had everything we needed. The food is always top drawer from the award-winning Morgans Catering and combining that with an awesome venue makes for a great location to hold your Wedding. All the staff couldn’t do enough for the couple and their guests, which is the usual for Redhouse Barn, and the day went flawlessly and with finesse.
The speeches were always going to be heartfelt on this day and who better to start it off than Jim, Gemma’s Father. The legend had written a speech for the big day and passed it over to Carl who had it projected and played as a slideshow to music. What a speech! He knocked it out of the park taking family and friends from emotional tears to tears of laughter. I hear a lot of speeches but that was something else and well deserved of the toast at the end. Carl got up for the Groom’s speech, “Cheers Jim, how am I going to follow that?” but he smashed it! Paying tribute to Gemma, their daughter Mia and both sets of parents with some heartfelt words. Carl’s dad, Tony, stepped up lightening the mood with some childhood anecdotes. Finished off by Best men, Lee and Paul, who were hilarious! They had everyone in stitches with just the right amount of banter, props for Carl and had the happy couple crying with laughter. Well done lads!
After utilizing the awesome gardens of Redhouse Barn for some Wedding photography of the happy couple there was a quick bouquet toss. This is one thing not everyone does at a Wedding anymore but always ends up with some hilarious pics. There’s always a couple of ladies ready to channel their inner Connor McGregor for the bouquet and today was no exception. As always anyone catching the bouquet at I wedding I photograph gets a discount if they book, lol. The evening was finished off in style with the cutting of the cake and first dance.
All in all an emotional day but one of the happiest for Gemma and Carl and their friends and family. Congratulations guys, you deserve it!
